Flowers--notice there are three style branches. This is true of the whole family. Flower bud--do you see the sepals? They are actually fused, but the green parts have membranous, transparent margins that make the sepals look narrow. This is characteristic of many of the Polemoniaceae.

Stem leaves--what kind of leaf margin is present? Upper stem leaves--sometimes the leaves are nearly or completely entire
