Wild-type (A-C) and racE null (D-F) cells expressing GFP-myosin II were fixed in suspension cultures and stained with DAPI to visualize their nuclei. Under these conditions, wild-type cells concentrate myosin II in a contractile ring that drives constriction of the cleavage furrow. RacE null cells also localize myosin II in a contractile ring but their furrows never constrict to completion.
